Conquering Clutter

Clutter is a struggle for so many.  There are many reasons why it is so hard -- we are too busy to deal with it and because it is an unpleasant task we can always find something better to do with our time, we can be overly sentimental making it hard to part with things, we may have physical limitations that keep us from being able to sort through and move items and sometimes there are deeper psychological issues that paralyze an individual when it comes to organizing.

Whatever your struggle, having a professional  organizer working with you helps the task seem less overwhelming.  Instead of walking into the space that needs to be organized and walking right back out because you don’t know where to begin, you have a support system to help walk you through the process, helping you over any hurdles you encounter along the way.

The process includes sorting through items and eliminating anything you no longer need, setting up organizing systems that are personalized for the individual’s personality and physical abilities and teaching that person how to live in an organized way in order to maintain the order created.  Sometimes additional support is required to help the person stay on top of things.  In this instance the organizer would come in for maintenance sessions to help the client stay on top of things so that chaos never creeps back into their home.  Support is key to making a lasting change –someone to remind you of why you are doing this and push you to reach your organizing goals.

What are You Thankful for?

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it is all about family, friends and good food -- NOT stuff!

When asking people what they are thankful for, we heard things like family, friends, health, a beautiful world to live in, food and shelter, a job, and coffee. Not one person said they were thankful for the garage full of stuff they have not seen in years, the keepsakes collecting dust on their shelves, or the clothes in their closet that no longer fit. However, for some reason we hold tightly to these things.

This season, let us focus on all of the blessings in our lives and begin to clear the clutter so that we have room for what is really important to us. Every day we help people make space for what is truly important to them. We would love the privilege of assisting you this holiday season.

Getting Organizing for the Holidays

You are probably wondering why we are talking about the holidays when it still feels like summer. The reason why we are talking about getting organized for the holidays is that I have seen so many clients have great intentions to host a party or family gathering in their home year after year, but it never happens because they did not start planning soon enough.  Believe it or not, now is the time to begin getting ready, especially if getting your home decluttered is part of the plan.
  • Start by going room by room, decluttering and organizing. Concentrate on the rooms that guests will be in first.  Sort things out for keep, donate, and trash. Get the donations and trash out of the space and then organize what you are keeping. If you feel overwhelmed and do not know where to begin, please contact us for support and direction.
  • Make a list of any repairs that need to be done to the home to get it looking its best. If you need recommendations of reputable companies, please contact us at info@psorganizing.com for a recommendation.
  • Start planning the event. Pick a date, make a guest list and plan out the food. The biggest mistake people make is over-complicating this step. Keep things simple so that you can enjoy the event as well.
Maybe in years past you have wanted to have friends and family in your home for the holidays but have just never gotten the house presentable so that you could. We would love the opportunity to help you reach your goals this year. Check out our new client special to receive $100 off your first session.
